SEASON 10; EPISODE 14

Last week we said goodbye to Michonne in a rather underwhelming episode. Not only was the episode a bit hit and miss, it also felt a bit mistimed too. The decision to slot it in directly after the death of Alpha was an odd one. We were expecting a reaction from Beta and The Whisperers but any sense of momentum or impending danger was put on hold. This week we did return to our central group but it looks like we're going to have to wait until next week (the penultimate episode) before we see any potential repercussions... It's probably worth starting with the fallout from Alpha's demise. She may have not been everyone's favourite villain but she was possibly the most frighteningly deranged ba

SEASON 10; EPISODE 13

Characters on The Walking Dead tend to leave the show in one of two ways. 1) They are killed off for shock factor (Glenn, Abraham, Jesus). Or 2) The audience knows for weeks or months that an actor is leaving the show and we then have to wait for the inevitable 'exit episode' Rick Grimes got the latter – and so now has Michonne. The fact she is leaving the show has indeed been common knowledge for a long time now and although we'll still see Danai Gurira play the role in the Rick Grimes spin-off movies, it's still sad to see her go. Another major character departs and the show is weaker as a result. Did she at least get a good send off? Not really... I'd kind of forgotten that she'd set off

SEASON 10; EPISODE 12

Last week's episode was 45 minutes or so of pure build up to what we assumed was going to be an epic siege battle with dragons and Dothraki and...oh yeah, wrong show. But still, the amount of groundwork that was laid indicated that a) we'd get a barnstorming action-packed romp of an episode and b) we'd probably say goodbye to a few characters in the process. Except it didn't really turn out that way. We did indeed lose a clutch of characters but all of these came after the Battle of Hilltop, which flattered to deceive a little bit. It's a difficult job directing prolonged battle scenes, especially ones played out after dark. Things get chaotic, it's hard to tell who is who and all that, sure

SEASON 10; EPISODE 11

Episode 11 was one of those episodes that inevitably foreshadows a lot of action, conflict – and quite often, death. In the last series of Game of Thrones, we had this before 'The Long Night' episode, where the white walkers attacked Winterfell. There's a lot of contemplation going on at times like these. It's the calm before the storm, where characters reflect on their situation, their lives and the potential of not surviving what is to come. And by the end of the episode, you feel that these fears may very well become a reality... After Daryl and a few others reach the apparent safety of Hilltop, they debate a plan of action after Lydia tells them that horde is in its way. A few want to st

SEASON 10; EPISODE 10

There was always a very good chance that we would leave the whole 'people trapped in a cave' situation and focus on some of the other characters this week – and so it came to pass. The episode opened with Rosita having a nightmare that a whisperer had broken into her house and was standing over her baby's cot with a knife. Of course, some viewers will have been pondering whether there we were being given some foreshadowing of events to come. Those people were bang on the money as it turns out... After Negan ratted her out, we were left wondering what had happened to Gamma at the end of last week's episode. Alpha had been instructed to retrieve her. He was also instructed not to kill her, as
