Netflix is moving forward with a sequel to War Machine, the sci-fi actioner that has become one of the streamer’s biggest success stories. Since premiering on Netflix in March, War Machine has amassed an impressive 139 million views, securing a place among the platform’s ten most-watched original films.
Director Patrick Hughes, who helmed the original film, is set to return for the follow-up. Hughes will also co-write the screenplay alongside James Beaufort and produce through his Huge Film banner. Producing duties will also be shared by Todd Lieberman and Alex Young for Hidden Pictures, Rich Cook of Range Media Partners, and Greg McLean, while Valerie Bleth Sharp serves as executive producer.
Details about the sequel’s story remain under wraps, although the ending of the first film left plenty of room for the franchise to continue. It has not yet been confirmed whether hunky lead Alan Ritchson will reprise his role as the battle-hardened staff sergeant.
