Succession star Sarah Snook is set to lead a TV remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic thriller The Birds, bringing a fresh twist to the iconic story.
The upcoming limited series will see Snook play Myra Massey, a divorcée who returns to her hometown with her young daughter. But things take a dark turn when she begins investigating the disappearance of a childhood friend. With a killer on the loose and threats closing in, Myra must protect her daughter from a terrifying series of unexplained bird attacks linked to the crime.
Hitchcock’s original 1963 film, based on a novella by Daphne du Maurier, starred Tippi Hedren. The new adaptation will introduce significant changes, with Myra being an entirely new character.
Tom Spezialy, whose writing credits include The Leftovers and Desperate Housewives, has penned the pilot. He and Snook will also executive-produce the project.
The casting marks Snook’s next major TV role following the thriller All Her Fault, which earned seven Primetime Emmy nominations. She is also known for playing Shiv Roy in Succession and won a Tony Award last year for The Picture of Dorian Gray.
Filming has yet to begin, and no release date has been announced. The series will stream on HBO Max.
